What is an Online Business Manager Course Designed To Teach?

Online business manager courses are typically designed to teach you how to effectively manage an online business on behalf of someone else. Most courses are created to teach you, the service provider, how to become an effective manager. These courses generally cover topics such as digital marketing, sales funnels, project management, launch managent, team management, and financial management. They may also provide training in specific tools and software commonly used in online business management.

The curriculum of online business manager courses may vary depending on the program and the instructor, especially considering there is no standardization or governing body regulating the industry. Most courses aim to provide students with practical skills that they can immediately apply in their online business management roles. Some of the more helpful courses include case studies or real-world examples to help students better understand how to apply their knowledge.

Where Can I Find A Good Online Business Manager Course

Online business manager courses are usually offered by private training providers, but some colleges and universities are also starting to offer variations of these courses as well. Some courses may be self-paced, while others are a cohort-style with live calls.

Before enrolling in an online business manager course, it is important to research the program thoroughly to ensure it aligns with your specific goals and skillset. You may also want to consider the cost of the course, the credentials of the instructors, and the course structure to determine if it is the right fit for you. Do your research. Ask for references if you would like. There are usually former students that are willing to share their first-hand experiences with the program or programs you are considering.

Do You Need A Certification To Be An Online Business Manager?

There is no universal requirement for certification to become an online business manager. However, some clients may prefer or require candidates to hold a certification or relevant training in online business management.

While certification can be helpful in demonstrating competence and knowledge in online business management, it is not always necessary. Experience and a track record of success in managing online businesses can be equally valuable.

Ultimately, whether or not to pursue certification as an online business manager is a personal decision that should be based on individual career goals, interests, and job requirements.

This article dives a bit deeper into getting started as an online business manager and shares pieces of my own personal experience.

How Much Money Can An Online Business Manager Make

The hourly rate for an online business manager can vary widely depending on factors such as experience, skills, location, and the type of services provided. Generally speaking, certified online business managers charge a higher rate than those who haven’t been through a formal training program.

It is important to note that certification is not always necessary for an online business manager to be successful. The value that an online business manager brings to their clients’ businesses can be based on their experience, skills, and track record of success, in addition to their certification. Ultimately, the hourly rate for a certified online business manager should be based on the value they bring to their clients’ businesses and the market rates for similar services in the industry.

In 2023, the average hourly rate for a certified online business manager, based on industry standards is typically around $65 USD/hr. Some certified online business managers charge upwards of $75-85/hr for their packages. Online business managers without certifications average $45-$55/hr.

What Should You Do Next?

Step 1: Assess your skills. Do you need an online business manager course in order to get started or do you already have relevant skills and marketable experience?

Step 2: If you are considering a course or certification — do you research. One of the best ways to do this is to join communities of other virtual assistants and online business managers and ask about their experiences. You’re welcome to join mine! There are a lot of VAs, OBMs, Directors of Operations (DOOs) and service providers in general. Ready, Set, CEO™ is free community on Facebook.

Step 3: Enjoy the journey! I started as virtual assistant, became a certified online business manager, and then pivoted into coaching and consulting — which is what I do today!
